Lowen Hankin is the Fund Manager of the Empire Tax Funds. As a practicing attorney with more than 30 years experience in real estate and business matters, Mr. Hankin was one of the first investors to bring the tax lien business to Wall Street. In 1988, Mr. Hankin began purchasing tax liens in New Jersey for his own account. Within three years, Mr. Hankin’s company, Garden State Lien Services (“Garden State”), was the exclusive representative of Salomon Brothers Realty Corporation (“Salomon”) in the purchase and management of Salomon’s tax lien portfolio. From 1991 through 1995 and operating in seven states, Garden State purchased and managed $50 million of tax liens for Salomon and other clients. Mr. Hankin also served as editor and publisher of Tax Lien Law Reporter, a periodical directed to the legal and investment communities.

 

Since reentering the tax lien business in Spring 2009, Mr. Hankin has established ten investment funds that have collectively purchased $185 million of tax liens on over 8,000 real estate parcels in ten states.

 

Mr. Hankin received his JD from Yale Law School.
